Dylan O’Brien and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials are nominated for this year’s Teen Choice Awards in two categories! The awards will take place on Sunday, July 31, LIVE on FOX.

Starting today through Thursday, June 2 at 12:00 PM PT, fans can vote once each day per category, per platform user ID, for their favorite TEEN CHOICE 2016 Wave One nominees. Vote via Twitter by tweeting a category hashtag (please see below) with the nominees name (either @nominee or if the nominee does not have a Twitter account use #nominee). DEADLINE – EXCLUSIVE: Dylan O’Brien is in negotiations with CBS Films to play Mitch Rapp in American Assassin, the adaptation of the Vince Flynn bestselling novel series that Michael Cuesta will direct for CBS Films and Lionsgate. O’Brien will play the title character, who ruthlessly carries out covert counter-terrorist operations for the CIA in the book series. A deal is expected to make shortly, ending a long search for what is expected to be a star making role. He would star alongside Michael Keaton, who signed on earlier to play Stan Hurley, a badass Cold War veteran who teaches the young assassin everything he needs to know. Stephen Schiff adapted the novel and Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Nick Wechsler are producing. CBS Films and Lionsgate are co-financing; CBS Films is overseeing the production and marketing while Lionsgate will release what is hoped to be the start of a series. Production begins this summer.

Lionsgate will be selling foreign on the film, and having O’Brien in the fold will surely help. It also means he’s recovering from his injuries incurred during the shooting of Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which had to be postponed to give him time.

The series will begin as Rapp is a black ops recruit who’s devastated by the loss of his fiancee to a terrorist attack. The CIA deputy director assigns the shadowy Hurley to train a grief-stricken but highly motivated Rapp how to thwart terrorist operations and hunt the perpetrators. As Rapp’s training progresses, the pair is dispatched on a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent to stop a mysterious operative from starting World War III in the Middle East. Rapp appears in 14 bestselling novels written by Flynn, who died in 2013. This has long been thought of as fertile ground for an action franchise, but it has taken forever to crystallize.

O’Brien is best known for The Maze Runner, and he’s part of the cast of the upcoming Deepwater Horizon, which is being made by Summit so clearly they got a good look at the young actor’s potential. WME and Principal Entertainment rep him.

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER – Fox’s The Maze Runner: The Death Cure has shut down production for the foreseeable future because its star’s injuries from an accident on set are more severe than initially expected.

Dylan O’Brien was injured while shooting the YA action-adventure sequel on March 18. Sources say he was in a harness on top of a moving vehicle when he was pulled off the vehicle unexpectedly and hit by another vehicle. A report from WorkSafeBC described his injuries as including a “concussion, facial fracture and lacerations.”

Production on the film was shut down in March in order for the actor to recover, with Fox believing it would take only a few weeks and scheduling a May 9 resumption. However, sources now say that cast and crew have been sent home, and a new start date will depend on O’Brien’s recovery and the ability to reassemble the large cast and crew. Insiders say O’Brien’s injuries are more severe than first believed.

“His injuries are very serious, and he needs more time to recover,” said O’Brien’s publicist, Jennifer Allen.

“The resumption of principal photography on Maze Runner: The Death Cure has been further delayed to allow Dylan O’Brien more time to fully recover from his injuries. We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible,” said a statement from Fox.

The Fox project was slated for release on Feb, 17, 2017, but because of the lengthy delay, the film likely won’t be able to make that date.

Wes Ball is directing the third film in the trilogy, in which O’Brien’s character, Thomas, embarks on a mission to find a cure to a deadly disease known as the “Flare.”

Ball released a statement soon after O’Brien was first injured in March, stating, “Well, it’s been a whirlwind of emotions these past few days. I’ve been overwhelmed with feelings of anger and sadness and guilt. But, ultimately I find myself left with just a deep love and respect for Dylan. He is one tough cookie.”
